Welcome to Vibes & Vitals!
I'm going to give you a brief introduction to myself, to V&V, and provide any disclaimers you may need to know.
I'll also have an FAQ section below. It's good to meet you, friend! :)
Who is Tay?
Hey! I'm Ms Tay (Schaefer)! I have always been interested in nursing because an accident put me in and out of the hospital from age 2 to 16. Watching the nurses work was fascinating to me. But it also came with a severe phobia of needles which I didn't overcome until around late 2024 when a new condition forced me to have blood drawn regularly.
Before overcoming that phobia, I pursued education in digital design and then computer and information technology. I worked as a business administrator and operations manager for a local, small ecommerce business for seven years. That company went out of business and forced me to find something new. The only software, computer, and IT jobs around me were related to weapons development but I couldn't hurt a fly, let alone another person.
One day I was at the local supermarket, of all places, and was trying on some new clothes. Outside the changing rooms are where all of the scrubs are kept as this particular supermarket and I decided to try a pair on. I felt at home in those scrubs. I went home and started researching what it would take for me to become a nurse and decided the path was right for me. I started down that path a few months after losing my job in early 2026. I plan to start nursing school in the summer of 2027.

Vibes and Vitals in my way of sharing helpful information, learning materials, and other resources with fellow students.
Part of my study strategy is the creation of digital flashcards. It helps me tremendously to write out information I'm learning and to then review it frequently. When I pair this with multiple other exposures, group study, and active recall I find I do much better in school. But I didn't want to keep the flashcards to myself so I started a Discord server to share my resources and for my friends to share resources they found as well.
As it turns out, very few people going into the nursing field even know what Discord is. It was frustrating to me, my friends, and classmates to download Discord and setup an account just to get access to my resources. I finally decided it would be much easier to simply make a website that I could point people to.
You can find my Quizlets, my reflections on past classes and clinicals, guidebooks, my assignments, and other online resources I've found helpful along my journey.
My resources are free to use, yes. However, they are not free to reproduce, copy, modify, alter, or sell. If you use them (classroom, private study, etc), you are required to link back to this website. My resources may not be used as a reference or citation for assignments, classwork, etc...
Unless you know me in person then the answer is no. I don't have time to vet everyone's resources and my goal is to get this website to as many people who need it as possible. Thoroughly reviewing every resource that may be sent my way would simply take too much time. However, I do encourage you to share resources you find with your friends and professors.
I create my flashcard sets on a platform called Quizlet. I separate each course into a folder (eg Human Anatomy) and then create several sets for one topic, but each set is unique. For example, you will find four sets pertaining to the skeletal system in my Human Anatomy folder. These are "Helpful Terms," "Axial Skeleton", "Appendicular Skeleton," and "Misc Skeleton Trivia."
This "chunking" or "breakdown" of each topic into subtopics makes each a little easier to learn and absorb without becoming overwhelmed. It is also easier to study fewer items at a time rather than the possible hundreds for a single topic. For example, imagine if my Medical Terminology sets were all combined into one set. There would be over 1800 terms to memorize and each term is unique. Learning and mastering a few terms from each topic in each chapter is far better for learning by repetition.
What are these guidebooks? For reasons beyond me, most people in my life like to ask me for advice and guidance. While I can offer some, it is often difficult to explain everything in full detail in full context without having prepared it ahead of time. These guidebooks are my answer to that problem.
Put simply, my guidebooks are guidance that I would offer to people earlier in their schooling and career. They're not meant to be-all, catch-all, end-all; they're meant to be a starting point. Whatever I put into the guidebooks must be taken in context of my journey and the research I've put into studying other people's journeys. Yours will not be identical. Always work with academic advisors, professionals in the medical field, and your professors.
Pedagogical is simply "relating to teaching, learning, and education." As I go through school, clinicals, and life I want to share my thoughts. Think of this as my personal journal but tailored specifically to education and career with personal details removed. I believe that knowing about experiences from other people can be very informative and enlightening for a lot of people. And entertaining for others I suppose.
First, a gentle reminder here about plagiarism. You may not reproduce or use my assignments when writing your own. I provide these as part of my portfolio and as a reference for others to learn from. This applies to all the content I provide on and off this website.
I'm not uploading every paper and assignment I ever create here. I'm uploading the ones I feel are most relevant. My goal in sharing my assignments is to showcase my growth over time, provide examples to others, and to reflect on my performance and grades (yes, I will be transparently posting grades and feedback from my professors if any is given).
The "Other Online Resources" page has services, tools, software, and more. These are not mine. While I am sharing them because I think they are helpful, I am in no way affiliated with or monetized by those resources. I do not maintain them either. Some are free, some are not. Use them with your own discretion.
That's why there is a convenient get help page. You can submit feedback, ask for help, etc... Please explore the website and check FAQs before sending me a message though. Don't expect a quick response; this is an intentionally poor way to contact me as responses are setup thru google forms. Additionally, I am not taking requests for content to be added to the website at this time (except for real life friends, professors, and professional acquaintances). Thank you!
